Breakfast review. Good option to have breakfast on Ocean Drive, not so pricey as the other places and great customer service.

Excellent Italian food in a gorgeous ocean front restaurant. The bourrata was wonderful as was the shrimp and farro. Professional and knowledgeable service was spot on perfect.

This place must be hit or miss, but for us, it was a hit. My lasagna bolognese was excellent. A little strange that everything appears to be served in the pan, but whatever. Drink specials never hurt either, but I'm finding that to be common along Ocean dr. Overpriced drinks offered at half price. Dear, South Beach - you're not fooling anyone.

Ate breakfast here this morning. A star for service and a star for good coffee. The eggs were ridiculously overcooked for everyone at the table and really lacking flavor.

I stayed at Winter Haven hotel so I had the continental breakfast almost everyday. Service was not good. They would give coffee but never cream, we always had to ask for cream. They would throw down a plate of pastries without butter, we always had to ask for that as well. The jelly holder was almost always empty so if we wanted jelly we had to ask for that as well. After the experience with dinner I never went there for breakfast or lunch.

Steak sandwich was pretty good, service was horrible. We were completely ignored. Asked for condiments and a lime for my beer (two separate times) and nobody brought either or even came by and asked how the food was tasting. Great location but not impressed by service at all. Try another of the 50 restaurants here on Ocean.

I have been to Il Bolognese before and it was good, but this time not so. The food was okay, but the entire meal was let down by the poor service: Mains arrived before we had even finished our starters and we have to ask for bread, we also had to ask three times for a wine list and parmesan finally arrived when we were almost finished. Once our waiter had taken our order, we never actually saw him again until he asked us if we wanted dessert. As they automatically add 18% service charge to the bill the waiters don't actually feel they need to deal with you. Finally restaurant staff had a conversation with a group of other diners standing beside our table and knocked over glasses & oils on our table and the staff left it. Never going back

Worst place ever. Waited 45 minutes for service. Then did a mild complaint. Then the waiter came back to tell me off that I was wrong in my assessment. We left.

Went here for brunch when The Front Porch Cafe down the street had an hour wait. There was nobody dining..... AND NOW I KNOW WHY! Service was awful. We were seated, and did not see our waiter for 10 minutes. He was very inattentive throughout our dining experience. Food quality was very poor and over-priced. I was charge $7 for granola (obviously from a box once I tasted it!) I would not recommend anyone dining at this establishment. If you are going to have a high-end atmosphere and prices, I would expect your food-quality and service to match.

This restaurant, which straddles the sidewalk in South Beach, was a remarkable find for us. We had passed in more than once, thinking it was much like the other "sidewalk" restaurants along Ocean Ave, but decided to give it a try after catching a whiff of sauce. We were seated promptly and ordered some simple dishes: a salad and Penne Arriabiatta. And, the penne was truly amazing. The pasta was tasty and cooked perfectly, and the sauce was delicious. Chunks of olives added to the flavor, which was an amazingly good blend of sweet from the tomato and spicy from the other ingredients. We had to order some bread to sop up what was left when the pasta was gone! It was great to have such a good meal while being able to people watch on South Beach.

My wife and I stopped and had supper here after running the gauntlet of restaurants on Ocean Drive. We passed this one up in search of something special to eat on our last night in Miami Beach before going back to the deep freeze we live in. It was worth every step of the search when we came back to dine. The service was fast and pleasant, our drinks were very good and at the table in a very short time. For a starter I had the fish soup and my wife had the carpaccio. My fish soup was excellent and I would with out a doubt order it again. The portion was just the right size with a little of the broth left to dip some bread into to finish it off. My wife loved the carpaccio and she is very finicky when it come to food so it had to be great! The main course was spectacular with the wife's Farro shrimp that had an amassing flavor that I cannot describe but it is at the top of the list of the best things I have put in my mouth. I had the Lamb Osso buco and it was outstanding as well with the risotto that had the essence of saffron and the lamb shank was fall off the bone tender. You can not go to Miami Beach without trying this place out you will not be sorry!

The way cafès on Ocean try to woo in passers-bye, you'd think they'd give a darn about servicing them once they've succeeded. What a disappointment this place was. It is certainly beautiful, and the homemade pasta noodles have a god texture; this I will give them. Other than this and the attentive hostess, however, I have only complaints. The waiter rushed us through our ordering and then ignored us for the rest of the meal. We had to ask for bread. We had to ask for wine. We had to ask for our candle to be lighted. We had to ask for water, and then for refills on our water glasses. When our glasses were emptied - nada. No inquiry if we wanted more wine. No inquiry how the food was. Imagine crickets chirping. In fact, the food was not good. It was, however, consistent: all three entrées were bland, flavorless and served cold. The fish soup, so promisingly described on the menu, needed both heat and spice. The fettucine carbonara, customarily a luscious, decadent indulgence, was skimpy, dry, and flavorless. Same with the fettucine bolognese. We would have liked to correct the seasoning to our liking, and would have if the waiter had checked-in to see how the food was, which he did not. The only spice at table was salt, so we tried to bring out some flavor with it. We ordered the $18 side dish of polenta with cheese and truffle with excitement. Normally, polenta is a favorite comfort food, and black truffles - very little is better than that. We were okay with playing for the experience. Well, they figured out how to ruin that as well. Il Bolognese's polenta side dish with cheese and truffles is cold, grainy, skimpy on cheese (not sure there was any, actually); simply unpalatable. We saw some truffle bits in the mix, but it was served so cold that the usual bodacious aroma was missing. When the waited did finally return (after another waiter flagged his attention for us) it was to lay down the check. Seeing the nearly full plates, you'd think he'd ask if all was to our liking. But no. Again, crickets chirping. Not even a "coffee or dessert for anyone?" He couldn't be bothered to take care of his patrons or inquire about their satisfaction (or dissatisfaction) with the meal. Perhaps this was an off night. Perhaps the kitchen was suffering broken ovens/stoves ... we will never know because we will never be back.

We stopped for drinks. My gin martini tasted like it was half water, and beware, they clip you $2 for tap water. A service charge is automatically added to the bill, which the customer is free to adjust. My advii: Keep walking.

Pretty awful overall. Sure, the burger was pretty good, although the "salad" it came with was a few pieces of lettuce and arugula buried under a bunch of french fries. The ceiling vent dripped water on us several times, and the waitress was absolutely TERRIBLE, despite us being one of two tables being serviced at the time. As a server, usually when you clear a table and ask them of they want anything else, you come back with the check, yes? Nope. She went off and wrapped silver ware for 10 minutes before coming back to see if we were through. Blah.

Excellent place, even for locals, the food is not only very good, the service is good, friendly and fast considering they are usually full, breakfast is good, the french toast, eggs and waffles are my favorites, the salads and pasta very good and drinks are superb. I just wish they had service in that cool rooftop, at least drinks, overall a highly recommended place.

This is a decent Italian restaurant - it's good for Miami food. We had drinks and pasta. The pasta was average; one of the dishes was over-cooked. The other dish was gluten-free, but tasted very good. Drinks took very long. But, it's still good. Go there if you're looking for a decent meal on Ocean Drive.

I've changed my rating to "fan" because of the warm outreach from the restaurant managers after my first review. They were very concerned about the service and food and encouraged me to come by for a refund of our bill. My husband and I will certainly return and try our "new kid on the block" again. Thank you Manuel and Yamilla.

Absolutely amazing! We stayed at the Winter Haven and had a leisurely brunch the next morning. The omelette and gourmet oatmeal were tasty! The service was great. Sitting on the porch under the umbrella with a light breeze made the atmosphere optimal. We will definitely be back!

This place was cute and had a great location right on Ocean drive, but the food was not good. The burger we ordered was a frozen patty, that even my hungry boyfriend would not eat. I ordered "banana pancakes" and they brought me a dry big pancake with bananas on top....I was like I thought banana pancakes meant they were actually in the batter. Placing fruit on top of a pancake does not make it a fruit pancake people!?! I can make a mediocre pancake and place sliced bananas on top!?! Craziness. So I was disappointed with that. Our service was not good. Waiter did not even notice or care that we barely touched our food. (Smh) Guy could care less at first to keep our drinks refilled. My boyfriend drank fast and had ordered coke and had to wait forever for a refill after asking other staff to help us and even getting up to go to the bar, the waiter still had not come by to check on us or refill his drink. I finally asked him to just bring us a larger glass of coke next time. He ended up charging us another $3.00 for the coke and $1.00 for tap water which I drank with my cafe latte. I don't really get charging people for fountain drink refills when you order other beverages and a platter a person, I'd see that more fit for someone not really eating or whatever since the establishment isn't making money off of them. We felt like we were schemed out of extra money and then charged an 18% gratuity for a crappy experience. Would never go back for sure!

this place!!!! I don't even know where to begin. this review is late, about a few months after our venture. my friend and I were in Miami for the first time, for her birthday. on our last night she wanted to go somewhere nice along the beach. we walked through the whole sidewalk maze of restaurants. we decided on this place for the surf and turf. once we received the plates I thought "this is tiny" however...it was the perfect size. our server...WAS THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE! Nicola/Nicolace was absolutely perfect. he took care of everything before asking. superb service. excellent amount of service. not in the way. charming. respectful. funny. professional. he MAKES this place. kept the drinks coming. it was tough to know how to tip him on top of the 18% gratuity because he deserved my whole bank account. GO HERE. request him if you can. it's a beautiful setting, food is good, I wanna go back...like now.

My colleague was attracted by the sign offering a steak and lobster special for $19.95. No hours were listed on the sign but when we began to order the waiter said it was no longer available. My colleague complained so the sign was then taken down - strike one. We were then given tap water in a bottle and later charged $2 for it on the bill - strike two. I ordered the lobster ravioli which were okay but not worth the $45 that they charged. The sauce was very good but the ravioli themselves were nothing special. My colleague enjoyed a very tasty fillet with au gratin potatoes - definitely a good choice. The ambience was very nice in front of the beach on a lovely terrace. The check came with an 15% gratuity included. I usually leave 20-25% but since they had already decided for me, I did not feel compelled to leave anything additional. Overall - not great, not bad, but somewhat expensive for what they offer.

This place was such a nice surprise! We wanted to eat on Ocean Drive and thought we were setting ourselves up for a tourist trap, so we settled on Il Bolognese because of their well-priced specials and variety of offerings. We were pleasantly surprised with well mixed and strong drinks! The drinks were 2 for 1 and I think only $15 total - what a deal in this area! And they don't skimp on the alcohol! The calamari appetizer was really good. We got the small order from the specials menu, under $5. We probably should have stuck to ordering a bunch of cheap appetizers because our entrees were underwhelming. My husband got the fish on special and I got chopped steak. I was expecting chopped steak, just plain chopped. But this was more like chopped pieces of meat with a bunch of vegetables, cooked like stir fry. My husband also complained that his fish was chewy. But for $16 per entree on Ocean Drive, we were pleased. I think one reviewer complained about paying for tap water water, but they tell you on the menu that they will charge for the water, so I don't feel wronged for that. The same reviewer also commented on the 15% service charge. Having gone to about ten other restaurants in the area during our short trip, I just want to point out that this service charge is added in 99% of restaurants in Miami Beach. Its a community that depends predominantly on tourits and most Europeans don't know to tip so restaurants have to manage it this way. Especially since the service was good for this customer as he said himself, I don't see why this should be an issue. I think the service here is great. Definitely go at least for their drink specials - one drink is all you'll need and you can gaze out onto the Ocean and feel the sea breeze as you drink these cocktails!

Stayed in the Marriott attached hotel on the 10DEC2014. We decided to have breakfast there the next morning. They gave us a breakfast credit worth about $18 ea (there were 4 of us). You'd think we'd be able to get breakfast for 4 for $72, right? Not even close! Final bill with their automatic gratuity put us over $130 and we didn't have cocktails. Wait staff doesn't even deserve a single star- HORRIBLE. We didn't ask for much, cream for the coffee (4 times we asked for it - never came), water for the table (4 times -never came). Plus the food was ridiculously mediocre. Denny's really has a better breakfast and I am a bit of food snob. I like good quality gourmet food and this couldn't be further from it. My wife ordered oatmeal that came swimming in milk - more like a bowl of milk with some flakes of oat floating in it. I had a skillet with 2 eggs, 2 pieces of sausage and toast. The other couple with us had a waffle and bacon and eggs. Nothing special but we all were looking at each with a confused look especially when the bill came. It almost became quite funny after we asked for water - we'd ask for it and laugh as the waiter smiled and walked away knowing full well he was going for another smoke break (1 of 3 while we were there, they didn't even try to stay out of sight!!) -Poor, Slow Service -Poor Quality -Over priced Recommendation: Save your money, save some time and go the 2 blocks up off the beach to La Sandwicherie. As far as the automatic tip goes, I know all of Miami does this but there should be a way to deduct for such poor service and quality. I usually over tip so was happy to only have to give up the minimum. Would I go back? Not even for the glass of water that never came.

Was there July 5th, there was a sign in front of the restaurant for $24.99 for the surf and turf. Waited half hour for waiter to ask about drinks and we order half an hour later the waiter comes out and Said that they are out of the surf and turf. So I had ordered the grouper. It came out cold and looked like a TV dinner kind of meal, sent it back and left starving. The service was horrible and so was the food wouldnt recommend this place to anyone

Actually, pretty decent restaurant. Salads where very good, fresh and tasty (you can add balsamico and olive oil). Calamaretti where not the best ever but good enough. The red snapper was good even though a bit too oily. Not a cheap restaurant .. But probably in range for south beach Miami.

I have to say. Being on Ocean on South Beach (at 11:30pm) and having already read some less than glowing reviews, my expectations were pretty low. We dined at Osteria Del Teatro earlier in the week and we were pretty disappointed. Although the service time was a little on the slow side for the entrees, our spaghetti carbonara and lasagne were excellent and well presented. I even asked for the lasagne well done and a corner piece and it was delivered as requested.

WARNING: They will charge you a 19% "service fee" For dinner on a Sunday night, me and my friend ordered the NY Strip Steak and the Spaghetti Carbonara with Shrimp. The Carbonara wasn't bad, though definitely overpriced compared to what I'm used to in Little Italy in Manhattan. The steak was bland and tasted nothing like a $48 steak. I guess it was leftover night.

Teastless food. I ate Risotto of the say with crab meat. Cost 34 dollars + tax + 19% tip. Was worth of 15. My friend at Ceasar salad with tuna and same: no taste in sause even. We paid 90 dollars for 2 food + beers. Service was very good!

The restaurant is located in the hotel lobby and on the hotel front porch so it is a vast and public space. It can get noisy. The food however is pretty good. I ordered the pasta with Burratta cheese and meatballs. The pasta and sauce were well prepared and the meatballs were tender and flavorful. All of the food was served hot. In the morning I just ordered some toast. The server was friendly and attentive.

We stopped in for brunch as we were walking along Oceans Drive yesterday. The Belgian waffle might be the most delicious one I've ever had, and the pasta Arabiata was spiced just right. It's a nice little place, our sever was great- he made great suggestions and recommendations, brought out fresh cheese for my pasta and even discussed the Game of Thrones!

Mediocre at best. We came here after the terrible service at The Purple Penguin right next door, starving and desperate. Big mistake. We had to wait 15 minutes after getting coffees (by the HOSTESS, no less) and a busboy came over to fill our water glasses, splashing water on the table in his haste, before our waitress came by to take our food orders. My boyfriend ordered a Manhattan and steak and eggs ($25) and I had the eggs Benedict ($17). Both were pretty terrible, especially after factoring in the cost. The eggs Benedict were salty and bland at the same time, and the steak was overcooked (he had asked for medium rare and received medium well in response). Also, the asparagus it came with were grotesquely huge and were more like asparagus clubs than spears. The Manhattan came garnished with a strawberry (?) and was way too sweet; it did not taste anything like a Manhattan, and was almost orange in hue (though the bill did indicate a charge for Maker's Mark, so apparently they got one ingredient right). At this point we were both in too bad of a mood to send food back -- we just wanted to leave. It's too bad that they can get tourists to fall into their trap because otherwise they'd be out of business. This is exacerbated by the fact that, like so many other spots around the area, they automatically tack on 18 or 19% gratuity, so the staff have little reason to perform, let alone impress. Bonus story: the family next to us ordered their breakfasts right before they stopped serving it at 11:30am, but decided to move to another table as the one they were at was too sunny for their liking. After they moved, they were informed by the manager that they could no longer receive the meals THEY JUST ORDERED because they had switched tables "after breakfast had stopped being served."

Good breakfast with large portions. We stayed at the hotel so we had a discount which made it better. Great eggs, bread and omelets. Outdoor seating of course or indoor but its Miami so outdoor is scenic. Sodas were expensive but I understand they have to make money - But they were $5,00 each for 2 fountain sodas. The waitress was fast and pleasant. The hostess was also very nice and quick to seat us. I would go back.

Sooo not the smartest move on our part to walk down ocean dr while hungry trying to figure out what you want for dinner. But they were really great! No one tried to hard sell us on eating there which made it more appealing. It was the surf and turf deal that drew us in- and it was really quite good.

I live in Miami, so I should know better not to eat on Ocean Drive. However, we were starving and this restaurant is part of a Marriott property, so I took a risk....BAD IDEA!! I have no idea why they are not set up to serve more than 10 people at a time!! The "manager" was standing around yelling at the poor staff for not taking orders of the people who walked off due to lack of service. They just don't care.once they get you in the door or seated. The food is way overpriced too. I ordered a spinach salad with shrimp. I had a total of 15 leaves of spinach and 5 puny shrimp. If it wasn't for our nice waiter, we would've walked. If this review helps one couple avoid this rip-off, my horrible experience will not have been for nothing.

  • Gabriela A.

The most horrible food ever. The host tricked my friend and I into believing that she was cutting us a deal at 50% off when they were having a 25% off promotion. She then displayed a sign letting people know they were having a 50% off promo. She kept changing the sign between the two dicounts depending on the waves of people that were passing by. Our margaritas were made with very bad bottom self liquor that left an awful after taste along with way too much salt. When we told the waiter about our drinks and he was very sassy with us and not accommodating. The food was bland and I did not enjoy any part of my experience. Il Bolognese's management needs to evaluate staff including chef, bartender, hostess, and waiter. Have a taste test and see if you enjoy anything.... wish you luck, enjoy!

Not impressed! Lunch waiter had an attitude when we sat for drinks only, yet several empty tables. Tried to get some sweetner to no avail, so we left. We stayed at Marriott Winter Haven, so we tried dinner. My rack of lamb was delivered well done so I sent it back. It arrived a 2nd time RAW!!! I asked if they could please just cook it 2 minutes more, it came back well done again!!! My friend had the lasagna and that was flavorless and "mushy". The antipasto appetizer for 4 was delicious but quite pricey @ $52. I would not return. The worst is the 18% gratuity added into everything. Stop by Walgreens to purchase some drinks before you go.

We had a very good experience here. Wine was reasonably priced and generous serving. Staff was just attentive enough to not be annoying. Our dinners were very good. My husband had the surf and turf and I had the risotto special. Our food was served quickly. We would definitely go back next time we're in the area.

Stopped here for a quick drink and appetizer and was immediately overwhelmed by the ambiance and surrealism of Cinque Terre. So I decided to stay for dinner... Key factor beyond the feel of the place.. The misting fans that constantly maintain a cool breeze despite the climate of South Beach in late June. The menu. Proportioned properly without the overwhelming feel. A generous happy hour even with two for one wines. I chose the risotto with filet. Drizzled with a generous amount of parmesan sauce. ABSOLUTELY the best risotto in this part of the world. My wife had the seafood salad. The term is misplaced because the term "salad" brings to mind the picture of greens. Rather this salad is a seafood heaven of lightly sautéed squid, shrimps, Maine lobster as the headliner with a few items from the soil added to compliment along with a light vinaigrette.. My compliments to the chef, staff and Management of this establishment.

Although I wasn't a complete fan the last time I came here, I was in Miami again this weekend and my friend was in the mood for pancakes. We passed by Il Bolognese and decided to give it another try. Guess what - we ate here twice in one day! Haha! For brunch, I ordered the omelette with ham, mozzarella, and potatoes. It was delicious, but the portion size was way too big. I was stuffed and it looked like I barely touched my meal. My friend and I ordered the side fruit plate to share. It was a good size, and the fruit was perfectly sweet. Definitely recommend their fresh squeezed juice. I had the Orange Carrot juice! We came back for dinner with a couple of friends after the free wine hour at our hotel. We were starving, so we stopped in again. I ordered the Lasagna Bolognese, with a caesar salad to start with. My eyes are ALWAYS bigger than my stomach, but the waiter assured me the salad wasn't too heavy since their dressing isn't egg based. The salad was delish, and very light - but it was a large portion! They really should allow you to order a small side salad. I was a little annoyed that my half eaten salad was $12! Oh well. The lasagna was incredible. Drinks were not that great. Service was pretty good. I'm sure I will find myself here again!

I originally wrote a negative review of this restaurant. And while we did have a less than favorable experience on New Years Eve, I will give the management credit for good followup service. They have issued a credit for the dinner and offered us a dinner on the house. That good service goes a long way. Thank you for being so attentive. We will visit another time.

My husband and I ate breakfast here a couple mornings ago and though the food was great the service was mediocre. We had to ask several times for water and waited for a long period of time for coffee refills. Thankfully the food kind of made up for the poor service.

This place is horrible. The worst place I've eaten in South Beach. Food was bad. The order came out completely wrong but that wasn't the worst part. They added a service charge that was over and above the tip. We were only too people. They explained it was for the bar and busboys. I asked for the manager and she said that it was standard on ocean dr. Of course she was lying. We had already eaten at a few of those and no such surcharge exited. Finally after much discussion and after she had run the card she gave us cash back. I said "but that comes out of the waiters tip right? And she said yes. And I was about to give him more but then I decided it was on them not me and left. Terrible experience.

Tough one to review. French toast was good, not great. Scrambled eggs came out cold and too well done. Also, everyone at the table was served at different times, so subpar on the service side as well.

I can only speak for breakfast and it was great , fresh and delicious. The wait staff was very attentive. Thank you Maria. I stayed at the Winter Haven above the restaurant and thought I didn't eat lunch or dinner it was always busy so something's working. The hotel is great too. :)

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
